Pakistani actor Sonya Hussaiyn has called for stronger public action against child abuse, domestic violence, and violence against women, encouraging people to speak up instead of remaining silent when they witness abuse.

Speaking at a crime prevention seminar in Karachi, the actor stressed that creating a safer society requires the active participation of every citizen. She urged families and communities to report crimes immediately and support awareness initiatives that educate people about consent, personal boundaries, and child protection.

Raising Awareness About Missing Children

During her address, Hussaiyn highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s Missing Persons Unit (MILAP), a specialised police initiative established to help locate missing children and individuals.

She encouraged citizens to report missing children without delay and reminded the public that anyone with relevant information should immediately contact the police through the emergency helpline 15.

According to Hussaiyn, quick reporting can significantly improve the chances of locating missing children safely and assisting law enforcement in their investigations.

Breaking the Silence on Domestic Violence

The actor also spoke about the widespread issue of domestic violence, urging people not to dismiss abuse as a private family matter.

She said many cases continue unnoticed because neighbours and relatives hesitate to intervene, believing that domestic disputes should remain within the household. Hussaiyn challenged this mindset, saying silence often allows violence to continue unchecked.

She encouraged people to contact the police whenever they suspect someone is facing abuse, emphasizing that timely reporting can help prevent further harm and potentially save lives.

Supporting the #InkaarKaro Campaign

Alongside her remarks at the seminar, Hussaiyn reaffirmed her support for #InkaarKaro (Say No), a public awareness campaign launched by filmmaker and activist Angeline Malik.

The initiative promotes awareness about consent, encourages survivors to speak out, and aims to prevent abuse by teaching people to recognise inappropriate behaviour before it escalates.

The campaign has gained support from several well-known personalities from Pakistan’s entertainment industry, who have joined efforts to promote respectful relationships and educate the public about personal boundaries.

A Clear Message About Consent

In a message shared on Instagram, Hussaiyn spoke openly about the importance of consent and personal choice.

She emphasised that every individual has the right to decide what happens to their own body and that no one should ever feel pressured into giving consent.

The actor encouraged people to say “no” confidently and without guilt, adding that respecting boundaries is a basic human right rather than a favour granted to others.

Building a Safer Future

Hussaiyn concluded her message by calling for a long-term cultural shift in how society teaches respect, dignity, and personal boundaries.

She said children should grow up understanding that consent must always be clear, voluntary, and respected in every situation. By promoting awareness from an early age, she believes future generations can build healthier relationships and help reduce violence against women and children.

Her message comes as awareness campaigns across Pakistan continue encouraging communities to report abuse, support survivors, and work together to create safer environments for everyone.

As conversations around child protection, domestic violence, and consent become more prominent, advocates say public awareness and timely reporting remain among the most effective tools for preventing abuse and protecting vulnerable members of society.
