Pakistanis have finally received a sigh of relief as the federal government has officially reduced petrol and high-speed diesel prices by Rs5 per litre. According to the latest notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised fuel prices came into effect from May 16, bringing some much-needed comfort to citizens already struggling with rising inflation and increasing daily expenses.

After the latest adjustment, petrol is now available at Rs409.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs409.58 per litre. Petrol remains one of the most commonly used fuels across the country, especially for motorcycles, small vehicles, and rickshaws, making this reduction particularly important for middle and lower-income families.

The decision comes after weeks of continuous fluctuations in fuel prices caused by instability in international oil markets. Global fuel supply chains had recently been affected due to tensions in the Middle East and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes. These developments pushed fuel prices higher across several countries, including Pakistan.

Interestingly, just last week the government had increased petrol and diesel prices significantly, which triggered strong reactions from the public. Earlier this year, fuel prices also saw massive jumps as authorities attempted to manage economic pressure and global market uncertainty. However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had previously intervened multiple times to stop further increases and provide temporary relief to the public.

The latest reduction is now being welcomed on social media, where many users are calling it a positive step for ordinary Pakistanis. While transport fares and overall inflation remain high, citizens are hopeful that fuel price cuts may eventually help reduce the burden on everyday expenses.
