Former prime minister Imran Khan’s health and jail conditions have once again become a major topic after his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, approached the Supreme Court against a recent Islamabad High Court decision.
In the petition filed through senior lawyer Uzair Karamat Bhandari, Dr Uzma Khan requested the court to allow Imran Khan access to proper medical treatment, personal doctors, family members, and legal counsel while he remains imprisoned at Adiala Jail.
According to the appeal, the Islamabad High Court had earlier refused requests related to shifting Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital and providing details about his medical condition to the family. Dr Uzma argued that she is deeply concerned about her brother’s health and well-being, especially because his sons currently live abroad.
The petition states that as Imran Khan’s closest family member in Pakistan and a qualified doctor herself, she has the legal right to raise concerns regarding his medical care and constitutional rights.
The appeal also claims that jail authorities created hurdles in legal communication and delayed access to documents required for filing the case. The Supreme Court has been requested to immediately suspend the earlier ruling and order a fresh medical examination by doctors chosen by Imran Khan.
Names mentioned in the petition for medical examination include Dr Khurram Mirza, Dr Asim Yusuf, Dr Faisal Sultan, and Dr Samina Niazi. The plea further asks the court to ensure regular meetings with family members and lawyers.
The petition argues that denying family access and medical transparency violates basic constitutional protections and fundamental human rights guaranteed under Article 9 of Pakistan’s Constitution.
