KARACHI – In a major crackdown against financial fraud, the Al-Falah police investigation wing has dismantled a sophisticated network allegedly involved in the production and sale of high-quality fake currency. The operation comes at a critical time as millions of citizens prepare for the busy Eid-ul-Adha shopping season.

The “Discounted” Fake Note Scam

Acting on a tip-off, authorities conducted a targeted raid and arrested three key suspects identified as Sajid Ali Shahani, Saddam Hussain Jatoi, and Kumail Hamza. According to SP Investigation Qais Khan, the group operated a “buy-one-get-four” style fraud. They were reportedly selling a counterfeit Rs5,000 banknote for just Rs1,000 in real currency.

The investigation revealed that the gang was also offering bulk deals, selling fake currency worth Rs100,000 for a mere Rs30,000 in legal tender.

High-Quality Forgery Recovered

During the raid, police seized fake notes with a total face value of Rs200,000. Officials warned that the seized currency was crafted with alarming precision, making the fake Rs5,000 notes difficult for the average citizen to distinguish from genuine ones at a glance.

The suspects aimed to flood the markets during the festive peak, capitalizing on the high volume of cash transactions at malls and cattle markets where sellers are often too rushed to verify every note.

Prior Criminal Records

Preliminary questioning has revealed that two of the arrested individuals are repeat offenders with existing criminal records. Police suspect this ring is part of a much larger syndicate operating across the city.

Public Advisory: Stay Vigilant

With Eid around the corner, law enforcement agencies have issued an urgent advisory to:

  • Verify Large Denominations: Pay extra attention to Rs5,000 and Rs1,000 notes.

  • Check Security Features: Look for the watermark, security thread, and color-shifting ink.

  • Report Suspicious Activity: Immediately notify the nearest police station if a buyer or seller offers “discounted” cash.

The Karachi police have pledged to intensify their surveillance in commercial hubs to ensure a fraud-free holiday season for all citizens.
