Karachi Rain Updates: Police on Alert as Monsoon Rains Continue

Karachi rain updates remained the focus on Saturday as light to moderate monsoon showers swept through several parts of the city for the second consecutive day. The rainfall, accompanied by strong winds in some areas, prompted authorities to place police and emergency services on alert while provincial officials reviewed preparedness measures for the ongoing monsoon season.

According to official statements, the rain affected multiple neighbourhoods across Karachi, while the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rainfall in Karachi and several districts of Sindh over the coming days. Authorities have instructed government departments to remain vigilant and ensure emergency resources are ready in case weather conditions worsen.

Rainfall Reported Across Multiple Areas of Karachi

Different parts of Karachi experienced varying levels of rainfall on Saturday evening.

Among the areas receiving the heaviest showers were 4K Chowrangi in Surjani Town and Lyari, where residents witnessed a brief but comparatively intense spell of rain.

Light to moderate rainfall was also reported in Scheme 33, Gulshan-i-Maymar, and nearby localities.

Residents in Hassan Square experienced only light drizzle, while brief showers were also recorded in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Jinnah International Airport, Sachal Goth, Mausamiyat, and surrounding neighbourhoods.

In the southern parts of the city, Saddar and adjoining areas received light rainfall, while Sea View and Defence Housing Authority (DHA) experienced only mild drizzle.

The latest showers marked Karachi’s second straight day of monsoon rain after the city received its first spell of the season a day earlier.

Karachi Police Placed on High Alert

Following the PMD’s weather forecast, Karachi police increased their level of preparedness.

According to an official statement, Additional Inspector General Karachi Azad Khan directed police personnel across the city to remain on high alert in anticipation of possible weather-related emergencies.

Field commanders were instructed to stay within their assigned jurisdictions to respond quickly if required.

Traffic police were also directed to monitor road conditions, manage traffic flow, and guide motorists towards alternative routes in areas affected by water accumulation.

The measures are intended to reduce traffic disruptions and improve emergency response during periods of heavy rainfall.

Sindh Government Reviews Monsoon Preparedness

Provincial authorities also reviewed emergency arrangements during a monsoon preparedness meeting chaired by the Sindh Chief Secretary.

During the meeting, officials directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district administrations to activate their control rooms immediately.

Authorities were instructed to submit 24-hour situation reports every morning throughout the monsoon season to help monitor weather conditions and emergency responses across the province.

The Chief Secretary emphasised that all contingency plans should include clearly identified relief camp locations and ensure the availability of essential rescue equipment.

These include rescue boats, dewatering pumps, water bowsers, power generators, and other emergency machinery that may be needed during flooding or heavy rainfall.

Emergency Supplies and Resources to Be Kept Ready

Officials also discussed the need for comprehensive resource planning before rainfall intensifies.

Departments were directed to ensure sufficient supplies of food, clean drinking water, medicines, and veterinary support for livestock where required.

Authorities stressed the importance of coordinating resources across provincial and district administrations to improve response times during emergencies.

The preparations are aimed at reducing disruption and ensuring that rescue teams can respond efficiently if heavy rainfall affects vulnerable communities.

Municipal Authorities Asked to Improve Drainage

The Sindh Chief Secretary instructed municipal authorities to complete the cleaning of storm-water drains and remove obstacles that could hinder drainage.

Officials were also told to ensure drainage systems remain fully operational before periods of heavier rainfall.

Flooded roads and blocked drainage channels have historically caused traffic congestion and urban flooding in Karachi during the monsoon season.

Authorities hope preventive measures will reduce the impact of future downpours.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moderate rainfall with isolated heavy showers is expected to continue until July 27 in several districts of Sindh.

Earlier High Alert Issued Across Sindh

Earlier this week, the Sindh government had already instructed district administrations to remain fully prepared as strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea continued to influence weather conditions across the province.

On the directives of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the PDMA placed district authorities on high alert and asked all relevant departments to implement precautionary measures.

Deputy commissioners, municipal administrations, irrigation officials, rescue agencies, health departments, and local government institutions were instructed to maintain emergency readiness, monitor drainage systems, and take all necessary steps to safeguard lives and property during the ongoing monsoon season.
