Indian actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay has officially stepped into a new era of politics after taking oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Soon after assuming office, Vijay made headlines across India by resigning from one of the two assembly seats he won during the recent elections.

Vijay Chooses One Seat, Leaves Another Vacant

According to Indian media reports, Vijay secured victory from both Perambur and Tiruchi East constituencies in the state elections. However, under Indian electoral law, a candidate cannot retain two seats simultaneously. Following the legal requirement, Vijay decided to vacate the Tiruchi East seat.

The resignation was formally submitted to the Assembly Secretariat by senior state ministers, after which the constituency was declared vacant. The Election Commission is now expected to conduct by-elections in the area within the next six months.

Grand Swearing-In Ceremony in Chennai

Vijay took oath as Chief Minister during a high-profile ceremony held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath, while several newly elected lawmakers also joined the cabinet as ministers.

The event attracted massive public attention, with supporters celebrating Vijay’s political rise from cinema superstar to state leader.

Vijay Announces Major Reforms

In his very first speech as Chief Minister, Vijay promised transparency regarding the financial condition of Tamil Nadu. He announced that the government would soon release a detailed white paper to inform citizens about the actual economic situation of the state.

He also urged the public to remain patient and allow the new administration time to implement reforms effectively.

Women’s Safety and Anti-Drug Campaign Become Top Priority

Vijay emphasized that women’s protection and eliminating narcotics would remain among his government’s biggest priorities. He announced the formation of a special task force focused on women’s security, alongside stronger anti-drug units to tackle rising narcotics issues.

The newly elected Chief Minister also signed several major public welfare decisions immediately after taking office, including 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers.

Political analysts believe Vijay’s aggressive start could reshape Tamil Nadu’s political landscape in the coming years.
